Euroanaesthesia 2013 : You must be there ! Barcelona, 1 – 4 June 2013
Dear members, colleagues and friends,
First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you for your continuing support of our society. Euroanaesthesia 2012 in Paris was a great success and highly rated. Needless to say nothing is so good that it cannot be improved! The Board and the scientific and other committees are working diligently with the secretariat to make Euroanaesthesia 2013 an even greater success.
In the meantime the Scientific Subcommittees have worked hard to prepare an interesting and inspiring programme for presentations of state-of-the art educational and scientific contents. I cannot go into all of the details here but just want to capture your inquisivity. The congress will include 40 refresher courses, 70 symposia, 37 workshops, 4 pre-congress courses, 2 postgraduate courses, 6 general lectures as well as several guest sessions and specialist society meetings. This is only the outline and many more professional and social activities await you. In addition to the predefined programme about 1000 scientific abstracts will present the latest developments in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and emergency medicine. The traditional Sir Robert Macintosh Lecture will be given by Prof G??ran Hedenstierna, Uppsala, Sweden in recognition of his seminal investigations on the effects of general anaesthesia on the respiratory function. Several research grants will be awarded to young researchers. These grants recognize outstanding research in different areas of our discipline.
The Basic Sciences Anaesthetic Course will be organised for the second time in Barcelona. This course is designed as a preparatory course in basic sciences for EDAIC candidates. In 2012 more than 1500 candidates took the European Diploma Examination (EDAIC) part I in one of the 36 international centres ESA has been able to recruit. This represents an all-time high and we are expecting even more candidates from all over Europe in the future.
Another success story is the only two year old Clinical Trial Network. Within a short time the organizing centres were able to enroll more than 10000 patients in each of several clinical trials. Starting this year three more clinical trials have been selected. These are still open for application (seehttp://www.esahq.com). More information will be presented in Barcelona.
The General Assembly will be another very important event at Euroanaesthesia 2013. Besides the usual business an important issue will be the voting on the new By-Laws. These have been diligently prepared after several rounds of discussion between Council, members and the task force. After a last feedback at the end of 2012 the task force will prepare a final version which will then be sent to all members and presented for voting in Barcelona. My plea to all of you is to make yourselves familiar with the By-Laws. My hope is that we can have a clear vote on them at the next General Assembly. The suggested changes are needed to prepare the ESA for many ongoing and future developments.
Thus, I am excited to invite you to the Euroanaesthesia 2013 in Barcelona. What can you do to make this a successful and inspiring meeting? Save the date June 1-4, 2013 and plan on attending the meeting in Barcelona! I am sure that Euroanaesthesia 2013 will be memorable and worth attending.
Looking forward to meeting you in Barcelona,
Prof Eberhard Kochs
ESA President
