Methods:A retrospective medical review was performed in 33 consecutive neonates with complete transponition of great arteries who underwent arterial switch operation with general anesthesia and profound hypothemia circulatory arrest and low-flow perfusion at Shanghai Children’s Medical Center from October 1988 through December 2003.After rapid induction with fentanyland vecuronium, nasal intubation was performed and connected with anesthesia machine used for ventilation. It was monitored that the MAP ECG,CVP PetCO2,body temperature, urine and blood-gas. Results:Of 33 cases, thirty recovered very well and had good heart function postoperativelly, three developed coronary insufficiency and low cardiac output and died within 1-11 days after operation. The mortality was 9%.There had n complication from anesthesia. Conclusions:Avoidance of depression on the myocardium, maintenance of homodynamic stable and strengthen mon itoring are critical for overall success of anesthesia of arterial switch operation for complete transposition of great arteries in neonates.
