Methods: For the 85 consecutive ICU critical ill patients, measuring lactate and APACHEⅢ scores after first admitted, recording the duration of ICU, measuring the lactate every 12 hours in ICU, continuing to analysis and evaluate the relationship of lactate and APACHEⅢ on the prognosis of critical ill patients. Results: The mortality of critical ill patients with normal lactate(<2.0mmol/L)is 33%, the mortality of critical ill patients with elevated lactate is 72%. There is significant difference(P<0.01).There is statistics difference of APACHEⅢ scores of critical ill patients with normal and elevated lactate. Conclusion: Lactate can be one of independent indicators on the prognosis of critical ill patients and well consistent with APACHEⅢ.
