Methods 120 adult patients, ASA grade Ⅰ~Ⅱ,scheduled for arm or hand surgery, were divided randomly into two groups(n=60). A bolus of 26ml of 2% chlorprocaine or 1.5% lidocaine 26ml was given to test group or control group, respectively, with intrascalene approach. Results ①The onset time, pain free time, motor free time and pain recovery time of brachial plexus block in test group were shorter than those in control group (P<0.05). ②1/3 unit of pethidine-promethazine mixture was used in test group for 20 cases and in control group for 22 cases(P>0.05). ③The changes of respiratory and circulatory parameters were similar in both groups. ④Side-effects were not observed in both groups. Conclusion: Chlorprocaine is quick in onset, its efficacy is well in brachial plexus blockade and no adverse reaction pronounced. It can be used safely for brachial plexus block.
